IBSA is officially opening its new plant in Lodi, which has been largely renovated thanks to an investment of 13.5 million euros. This investment will expand the site’s production capacity to support the Group’s international expansion and meet the growing demand in both domestic and global markets.
IBSA opens its new plant in Lodi, a world leader in Hyaluronic Acid
The plant, which covers a total area of approximately 12,000 square meters, is a center of international excellence for the production of finished products based on hyaluronic acid, a field in which IBSA is one of the world’s leading companies.
“For us, the Lodi plant represents a model of excellence that translates into products for patients and healthcare professionals in over 90 countries, while also highlighting the expertise of our employees and our connection to the Lombardy region” said Giuseppe Celiberti, CEO & General Manager of IBSA Italy.
The project is part of a development plan launched in recent years with the expansion of the Cassina de’ Pecchi production site and the inauguration of IBSA Italy’s new headquarters, representing a total investment of approximately 40 million euros. At the Lodi plant, the expansion of production and packaging of hyaluronic acid-based products has been divided into three successive phases since 2022. The new section dedicated to pre-filled syringe formulations completes this process and will enable the production capacity for hyaluronic acid syringe vials to increase from 6 million units per year in 2022 to 14 million.
IBSA stands out from other companies operating in the vast hyaluronic acid market, which is worth $12.4 billion globally, because it controls the entire production chain.
Thanks to NAHYCO® Hybrid Technology, the special thermal process patented by IBSA that combines high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid to create highly concentrated cooperative hybrid complexes, the company is among the few international firms capable of producing ultra-pure hyaluronic acid for applications in various therapeutic areas, ranging from osteoarticular medicine to aesthetic medicine and urogynecology, thereby expanding its range of high-quality, high-performance products to promote healthy aging and all-around well-being.
