Every year in November, the spotlight turns to the international campaign dedicated to men's health. The Movember movement was launched in 2003 to raise awareness of diseases such as prostate and testicular cancer and to promote prevention and early diagnosis of the main diseases affecting men.
Despite progress in communication and medicine, some topics remain taboo, such as erectile dysfunction: a problem that affects around 3.5 million Italians, but which is still rarely discussed.
The difficulty in doing so, both for those who suffer from it and for those who should provide information, increases patients' isolation and delays access to effective support pathways. According to the data, as many as 43% of men who experience the first symptoms do not seek specialist help even after three years, with significant repercussions on their self-esteem and their relationship with their partner. Partners are also affected by erectile dysfunction, caught between isolation, feelings of helplessness, and, at times, guilt.
